International Advisory Committee Meeting with Amy Pope, Director General of the International Organization for Migration

During the meeting which was held on 6th of June, 2024 between the IAC and IOM, several topics were discussed that are critical for the success of COP29. 

The meeting brought together diverse perspectives on the intersection of climate change and human mobility. Participants emphasized the urgent need for innovative approaches and political commitment to support vulnerable communities affected by climate-induced displacement. The discussions underscored the importance of both mitigation and adaptation strategies, highlighting the critical role of financing, strategic migration, and the inclusion of various stakeholders, including the private sector, indigenous communities, and international organizations. The need for collaboration and enhanced data was echoed by several speakers, who also stressed the importance of focusing on practical solutions and partnerships to build resilience against future climate impacts. The meeting served as a platform for identifying key challenges and exploring actionable steps toward addressing climate-driven displacement and human mobility.
